Jaipur: The North Western Railway has expedited work on 13 major infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening rail connectivity across Rajasthan and its bordering regions for the financial year 2026–27. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these projects, collectively estimated at around ₹21,000 crore, are set to be submitted to the Railway Board this year, paving the way for further approvals.

Following submission, the key projects will be referred to NITI Aayog for appraisal, while efforts are also underway to secure phased approvals for select projects.

Among the most significant proposals is the Jaipur–Phulera third line, expected to ease congestion on one of the state’s busiest rail corridors. At present, heavy traffic density on this stretch leads to delays due to crossing and overtaking of trains. The addition of a third line will allow simultaneous train movements, streamline operations on the Jaipur–Ajmer and Jaipur–Jodhpur routes, and improve the speed and punctuality of express services.

Strategic Boost for Defence and Civil Connectivity

Several projects are expected to enhance both civilian travel and defence logistics. The Anupgarh–Khajuwala–Jaisalmer rail line (340 km, ₹7,150 crore) will connect key border districts, facilitating faster movement of Army personnel and equipment.

Similarly, the Jaisalmer–Barmer–Bhiladi line (380 km, ₹10,450 crore) will improve connectivity between western Rajasthan and Gujarat’s ports, providing a boost to the refinery sector as well as tourism.

The Phalodi (Shaitan Singh Nagar)–Nagaur line (148 km, ₹2,540 crore) is expected to improve access to industrial areas, while the Devgarh Madariya–Marwar line (approximately 72 km) will reduce travel distance between the Mewar and Marwar regions and support tourism, particularly to Nathdwara.

In addition, the Khatushyamji–Salasar–Sujangarh rail line (126.89 km) will enhance connectivity to major religious destinations, improving convenience for pilgrims.

Railway officials stated that once the DPRs are approved and projects are implemented, Rajasthan’s rail network capacity and operational efficiency are expected to witness a significant upgrade. DeshBharat
