Western Railway completes 85% of work on 133-km Neemuch–Ratlam doubling project

Mandsaur: Western Railway has achieved a major milestone in the Neemuch–Ratlam doubling project after the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) successfully completed the inspection and speed trial of the 23.35-km Malhargarh–Mandsaur rail section, clearing the track for train operations. With this, more than 85% of the 133-km doubling project has been completed, bringing the work close to its final stage.

The CRS of Western Circle, E. Srinivas, conducted a detailed inspection of the newly doubled line on March 10, examining bridges, overhead equipment (OHE), tracks, signalling systems, and other safety arrangements. On March 11, a speed trial was carried out at more than 120 kmph to verify track quality and safety standards. After satisfactory results, the section was certified fit for passenger and freight train movement.

The Malhargarh–Mandsaur stretch, measuring about 23.35 km, is part of the larger 133-km Neemuch–Ratlam doubling project, of which nearly 115 km has already been completed. Railway officials said the remaining work on the Mandsaur–Daloda and Ratlam–Dhauswas sections is progressing rapidly and will be finished soon.

During the inspection, the CRS also reviewed signalling and electronic interlocking systems at stations, including Pipliya Mandi, and instructed officials to ensure proper training of staff to avoid operational errors. A speed trial using an inspection vehicle was conducted after technical checks were completed.

Railway authorities said the doubling of the Neemuch–Ratlam section will significantly increase line capacity, reduce waiting time for train crossings, and improve punctuality of passenger trains. The project is also expected to facilitate smoother freight movement for industries in the Ratlam–Chittorgarh belt, particularly cement, zinc, and other industrial units.

Once the entire doubling work is completed, the Ratlam–Chittorgarh route will become fully doubled and electrified, improving operational efficiency and supporting faster industrial and passenger transport in the region. DeshBharat
