J&K’s First Multi-Modal Logistics Park to be Built in Samba; Major Boost for Local Exports Expected

Samba: Preparations have commenced for the construction of Jammu and Kashmir’s first Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in the Thandi Khui area of Samba district. Spread across 100 acres, the landmark project is expected to transform the region’s trade infrastructure and enhance its economic competitiveness.

Strategic Location and Facilities

The project site is located approximately 35 km from Jammu and around 60 km from Pathankot. The park will feature modern infrastructure, including warehouses and cold storage units, truck terminals, container freight stations, and inland container depots.

Its proximity to a railway station is expected to facilitate seamless import and export operations.

Economic Impact

The MMLP is likely to provide a significant boost to the export of key Kashmiri products such as saffron, apples, walnuts, handicrafts, and industrial goods. By strengthening multimodal connectivity and last-mile access, the project aims to reduce logistics costs and improve the Union Territory’s competitive position in domestic markets.

Project Status and Execution

According to R.S. Yadav, Regional Officer of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the land has been identified and construction is expected to begin shortly. The project will be executed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), while NHAI will facilitate land-related support.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has put in place dedicated arrangements for the project. A high-level meeting between government officials and NHLML is expected soon to finalise the project draft and resolve land-related matters.

The project drew national attention after Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur shared details in the Rajya Sabha in response to a written query from MP Sat Sharma. Land acquisition is expected to commence in the coming days. DeshBharat
