Railways mulls allowing boarding point change until second reservation chart
February 19, 2026
New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways is examining a proposal to make the facility for changing the boarding point more convenient for passengers by allowing such changes until the preparation of the second reservation chart.
According to a communication issued by the Railway Board, earlier instructions under Commercial Circular No. 17 of 2019 permitted passengers to change their boarding point only up to the preparation of the first reservation chart. This facility applies to passengers who reserve accommodation from one station but wish to board the train from another en route.
However, with the first reservation chart now being prepared 10–20 hours before the scheduled departure of trains, the Railways has proposed extending the deadline for changing the boarding point until the second reservation chart is generated, in order to provide greater flexibility and convenience to travellers.
The Railway Board has asked the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to examine the feasibility of this proposal and submit its comments at the earliest so that a final decision can be taken. DeshBharat
