Sadhna Tunnel DPR Advances; Singhpora–Vailoo Project Under Reconsideration: J&K Govt
February 18, 2026
Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Assembly that work is underway on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Sadhna Tunnel in the Karnah area of Kupwara district.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone regarding the status of the Sadhna Tunnel and the proposed tunnel linking South Kashmir with Kishtwar, the government said the alignment of the Sadhna Tunnel is being finalised in consultation with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Regarding the Singhpora–Vailoo tunnel project in Kishtwar district—aimed at providing all-weather connectivity between South Kashmir and Kishtwar—the government stated that the project had initially been approved under the Bharatmala scheme.
However, since the Bharatmala programme is no longer in force, the project is currently under consideration for fresh approval under the National Highways (Original) [NH(O)] scheme. The government further said that the project will be implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) as the executing agency. DeshBharat
