Passenger Vehicle Sales Rise 27% in December 2025 on Strong Utility Vehicle Demand

New Delhi: India’s automobile industry ended 2025 on a strong note, with passenger vehicle sales registering robust growth in December, driven largely by sustained demand for utility vehicles.

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle wholesale sales stood at 399,216 units in December 2025, marking a year-on-year growth of 26.8 per cent compared to 314,934 units sold in December 2024. SIAM attributed the sharp rise primarily to the continued popularity of utility vehicles, which has strengthened the industry’s momentum in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.

The two-wheeler segment also recorded significant growth during the month. Wholesale sales of two-wheelers reached 1,541,036 units in December 2025, reflecting a strong 39 per cent increase from 1,105,565 units sold in the same month last year. Meanwhile, three-wheeler sales stood at 61,924 units, up 17 per cent from 52,733 units in December 2024.

SIAM noted that double-digit growth across all major vehicle segments has improved the overall outlook for the automobile industry. Despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, industry experts remain optimistic and expect the financial year 2025–26 to conclude with positive growth.

The industry body further said that with continued policy support and the strong performance seen in recent years, the auto sector has adequate scope to sustain stable growth. SIAM also expects both wholesale and retail vehicle sales to remain steady and robust during the fourth quarter, reinforcing confidence in the sector’s near-term prospects.
