April 01, 2026
New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced the approval for the construction of a 12.670-km-long four-lane Rishikesh Bypass in Uttarakhand at an estimated cost of ₹1,105.79 crore.
The proposed bypass will pass through Bhattoowala and Dhalwala villages in Dehradun and Tehri districts, connecting the Teenpani Flyover to the Kharasot Bridge on National Highway-7.
Rishikesh serves as the gateway to the Char Dham Yatra, and the project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion within the city. It will also enhance road safety and reduce travel time for commuters and pilgrims.
According to the minister, the bypass will improve connectivity to key pilgrimage routes, including Badrinath and Kedarnath via NH-7, and Gangotri and Yamunotri via NH-34. The project will also strengthen access to Hemkund Sahib and strategically important border areas along the India-China frontier, including Mana, Niti, and Nelang. DeshGujarat
