Muzaffarnagar Among 157 UP Stations Under Amrit Bharat Redevelopment Plan
March 30, 2026
New Delhi: Muzaffarnagar Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh is undergoing a significant transformation as part of the central government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha recently.
Modernization and Infrastructure Upgrades
The Minister detailed that work at Muzaffarnagar is progressing at a “good pace,” with several key projects already underway to enhance the passenger experience. Current works include improvement of the station building, platform surfacing, construction of a new second entry building, and installation of a 6-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB).
While the station already provides basic facilities such as high-level platforms, waiting halls and drinking water, its selection under the Amrit Bharat scheme marks a move towards a “long-term approach” to redevelopment. The broader master plan for such stations includes provisions for lifts and escalators, wider air concourses, executive lounges, landscaping, and amenities specifically designed for Divyangjans.
Uttar Pradesh’s Expanding Railway Network
Muzaffarnagar is one of 157 stations in Uttar Pradesh identified for development under this scheme, out of a total of 1,338 nationwide. While 23 stations in the state—including Ayodhya Dham Junction, Bareilly City and Saharanpur Junction—have already seen their development works completed, Muzaffarnagar remains part of the ongoing phase of active construction.
To fund these upgrades, the government has made a substantial financial commitment. For the 2025–26 financial year, a revised estimate of ₹3,794 crore was allocated for the five railway zones covering Uttar Pradesh under the ‘Customer Amenities’ plan. As of February 2026, approximately ₹3,694 crore of this budget has already been utilised for various station modernisation projects.
Current Train Services and Connectivity
The Minister confirmed that Muzaffarnagar station is currently served by 55 train services. The roster includes premium services such as:
- Vande Bharat Express: Connecting Anand Vihar (T) and Dehradun
- Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi Express: Providing fast links to New Delhi and Dehradun
- Long-distance connectivity: Services to major cities like Amritsar, Bandra (T), Kota, Indore and Thiruvananthapuram
The Ministry also addressed the status of train stoppages, noting that Indian Railways had rationalised its timetable with the help of IIT Bombay following the COVID-19 pandemic. This exercise was designed to improve punctuality and safety by creating dedicated maintenance windows. The Minister emphasised that providing additional stoppages is a continuous process based on traffic justification and operational feasibility. DeshGujarat
