Jaipur – Kishangarh Travel Time to Halve as NH-48 Six-Laning Project Moves Ahead
March 16, 2026
Jaipur: In a move to strengthen National Highway infrastructure in Rajasthan, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received nine bids from highway developers for the proposed six-laning of the nearly 90-km Jaipur–Kishangarh stretch of NH-48. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode and is expected to be awarded within the current financial year. The Government of India approved the project in February 2026.
The proposed upgrade aims to convert the existing highway into a semi access-controlled corridor by constructing flyovers and vehicular underpasses at major junctions, along with service roads and slip roads along the entire route. These measures are expected to ease traffic movement, reduce bottlenecks and improve overall road safety.
After completion, travel time between Jaipur and Kishangarh is likely to come down from around two hours to nearly one hour. The widened corridor will also allow higher average speeds and increase the traffic-handling capacity of the highway. Continuous service roads will help separate local traffic from long-distance vehicles, thereby reducing congestion and improving operational efficiency.
Officials said the project will also lead to significant safety improvements. Flyovers, underpasses and grade-separated structures will minimise conflict points at intersections, lowering the risk of accidents. Dedicated service roads will provide safer movement for local commuters and pedestrians by keeping them away from high-speed highway traffic. The project will be implemented without additional land acquisition, which is expected to speed up execution.
The upgradation of the Jaipur–Kishangarh section of NH-48 is expected to boost regional connectivity, improve logistics movement and support economic activity in the region, besides providing faster and safer travel for passengers and freight vehicles. DeshBharat
