Begusarai: The Hathidah–Simaria double-track rail bridge built over the Ganga river to strengthen rail connectivity between North and South Bihar is now fully ready. Constructed at an estimated cost of around ₹1,700 crore, the modern bridge is expected to ease rising rail traffic pressure and significantly boost regional development across the state.

Key Features and Technical Details

  • Length and Structure: The double-line railway bridge is approximately 1.86 km long and stands on 18 pillars.

  • Capacity: Built parallel to the historic Rajendra Setu, which operates as a single-line bridge, the new structure is equipped with advanced engineering standards and is designed to support train speeds of up to 160 kmph.

  • Construction Timeline: Work on the project commenced in 2018. In February 2026, the “Golden Joint” ceremony was held after the final segment of the bridge was connected at pillar number 12, marking the completion of its structural work.
