Jodhpur: The North Western Railway has initiated a major infrastructure upgrade at its Jodhpur Coaching Depot, investing ₹9 crore to modernise the rolling stock maintenance framework. The comprehensive revamp aims to enhance the technical inspection, repair and upkeep of passenger coaches, thereby ensuring safer and more reliable operations of long-distance trains.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jodhpur Division, Anurag Tripathi, stated that the depot’s pit lines are being strengthened and equipped with new inspection and repair machinery. Advanced facilities are also being developed to conduct detailed checks of critical systems, including braking mechanisms, undergear components, suspension assemblies and electrical equipment.

In addition, the washing lines and overall cleaning systems at the depot are being upgraded to improve hygiene standards and provide passengers with cleaner, better-maintained coaches.

According to the DRM, the strengthened maintenance ecosystem will enable timely detection of technical faults, thereby improving operational safety and train punctuality. The reduction in rake turnaround time is also expected to increase coach availability, making it easier to manage additional passenger load during peak travel periods.

The initiative is being viewed as a significant step towards enhancing safety standards and service quality in the Jodhpur Division, with direct benefits to passengers in the form of safer, more comfortable and punctual journeys. DeshBharat
