Oil PSUs spend over ₹12,600 lakh on CSR projects in Rajasthan in three years: Centre

New Delhi: Public sector oil companies spent more than ₹12,600 lakh on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in Rajasthan over the last three financial years, the Union government informed the Lok Sabha today.

Replying to a question, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi stated the year-wise details of CSR expenditure incurred by oil companies in Rajasthan during the last three financial years (FY), i.e., 2022–23, 2023–24 and 2024–25.

As per the data shared, total CSR spending by public sector oil companies stood at ₹3,535 lakh in 2022–23, which increased to ₹4,410 lakh in 2023–24 and further rose to ₹4,714 lakh in 2024–25.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) emerged as the largest contributors during the period, with IOCL spending ₹2,817 lakh and ONGC ₹1,118 lakh in 2024–25 alone.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), GAIL, Oil India Limited (OIL), and Engineers India Limited (EIL) also reported CSR expenditure in the state during the three years.

On district-wise details and the nature of projects funded, the minister said CSR initiatives are undertaken as per statutory norms. “Public sector oil companies undertake Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities under the heads identified under Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013, with special focus on Health (Nutrition, Sanitation and Drinking Water), Education, Skill Development, Rural Development, Women Empowerment, Environment-oriented initiatives and care for the elderly and differently-abled persons,” the reply stated.

He added that “CSR is a Board-driven process and the Board of the company is empowered to plan, approve, execute, and monitor the CSR activities of the company based on the recommendations of its CSR Committee.” The government further noted that detailed state-wise and district-wise information on CSR projects is available on the official websites of the respective public sector petroleum companies.
