Prime Minister Modi Likely to Inaugurate North Guwahati Bridge During Assam Visit

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Assam on February 14, during which he is likely to inaugurate the much-awaited bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, according to indications from the state government. If confirmed, this will mark the Prime Minister’s third visit to Assam within three months, ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated during a Facebook Live interaction that discussions are underway with the Union Government to finalise the date, programme, and logistical arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Assam on February 14. If the visit is confirmed, he will inaugurate the bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati,” the Chief Minister said.

During the proposed visit, the Prime Minister is also expected to formally inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati campus. In addition, he may flag off 100 electric buses aimed at strengthening public transport infrastructure in the state.

There is also a strong possibility that the Prime Minister may arrive in Guwahati using special landing facilities developed on NH-10 in Maran, utilising recently upgraded infrastructure.

The state government is also considering the possibility of a second visit by the Prime Minister later in February. During that visit, he may lay the foundation stone for several key infrastructure projects, including the Kokrajhar–Gelephu railway connectivity project, which is seen as a major initiative to enhance international connectivity between Assam and Bhutan.

Other projects that may be launched include the railway coach construction factory in Kokrajhar and the Guwahati–Shillong Express Highway, estimated to cost around ₹22,000 crore.

Prime Minister Modi has already visited Assam twice in recent months. On December 20, he inaugurated the second terminal of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, and on January 18–19, he attended cultural programmes, including the Bagurumba dance, and laid the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Dibrugarh on January 30, where he will lay the foundation stone of the Second Assam Assembly Complex and address a public meeting.

The state government continues to coordinate closely with the Centre to finalise the Prime Minister’s itinerary and ensure smooth execution of the proposed programmes. DeshBharat
