Feasibility Study Planned for Flyover to Ease Traffic on Najafgarh–Kapashera Road

New Delhi:In a move aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in south-west Delhi and the Delhi–Gurgaon border area, a feasibility study will be conducted for the construction of a flyover on the Najafgarh–Kapashera Road, connecting NH-48 and the Bijwasan Railway Flyover. The proposal has been prepared by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The planned flyover is expected to benefit commuters in Samalkha, Bharthal, Kapashera, Palam Vihar, and the Delhi–Gurgaon border area. In addition, there is a proposal to extend the Bijwasan Railway Flyover, which would help make the nearly 5.5-kilometre stretch between NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway jam-free.

PWD officials said that the Najafgarh–Kapashera Road starts near Samalkha and passes through Bharthal, Bijwasan, Sector 28, and Chhawla, before terminating at Najafgarh. While the total length of the road is around 15–16 kilometres, the worst congestion is experienced on the 6–7 km stretch between NH-48 near Mahipalpur and the Bijwasan Railway Flyover.

The road also connects with the Old Delhi–Gurgaon Road, making it a key traffic corridor. The existing flyover near Bijwasan Railway Station, built around a decade ago, is approximately 800 metres long with four lanes. However, due to a sharp rise in traffic volume over the last 10–12 years, congestion on this stretch has become severe.

Officials said the feasibility study will examine the construction of a new flyover between NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway to decongest the corridor and improve traffic flow. The PWD is expected to appoint a private agency soon to carry out the study.

If implemented, the project is likely to provide significant relief to daily commuters and improve connectivity between Delhi and Gurgaon. DeshBharat
