Outer Ring Road to Connect All Highways in Bareilly, Boost Development

Rajesh Shekhar, Bareilly: With multiple highway and infrastructure projects progressing rapidly, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has finalized the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Outer Ring Road project for Bareilly. Construction work is expected to begin soon. Once completed, the Outer Ring Road will connect all national and state highways passing through the district, along with key district roads, significantly strengthening road connectivity and accelerating development in Bareilly and surrounding regions.

At present, work is moving swiftly on the Jhumka Tiraha–Rajau Parsapur Ring Road, Bareilly–Mathura National Highway widening, and the Devchara–Bhamora bypass. Additionally, the process of converting the Bareilly–Moradabad and Bareilly–Sitapur National Highways into six-lane corridors has already begun.

Bareilly will also benefit from the Gorakhpur–Shamli Greenfield Link Expressway, which will pass through the district. A detailed survey for this project has been completed, and land acquisition is set to begin shortly.

To address growing traffic pressure, construction of the Navadiya Jhada six-lane flyover is in its final stage. The flyover has been designed keeping future six-lane connectivity in mind. Meanwhile, NHAI has completed flyovers and underpasses at 12 locations as part of the six-laning of the Bareilly–Sitapur Highway.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

After completion, the Outer Ring Road will connect major routes including Bareilly–Mathura, Bareilly–Delhi, Bareilly–Lucknow, Bareilly–Pilibhit–Sitapur, Bareilly–Nainital, and Bareilly–Amla–Ramnagar highways, along with Bareilly–Dataganj–Puwaiyan national and state highways. This enhanced network is expected to ease congestion within the city and provide seamless movement for through traffic.

Bareilly will also gain direct connectivity to the Ganga Expressway Industrial Corridor. Work on the Meerut–Prayagraj Ganga Expressway is nearing completion. The expressway passes through Binawar, Kunwargaon, and Dataganj in Badaun district and connects the Moradabad–Farrukhabad and Bareilly–Mathura highways, both of which are being developed as industrial corridors. Land acquisition for these projects has already been completed.

The Outer Ring Road will serve as a crucial link between Bareilly, the Ganga Expressway, and the industrial corridor, further driving economic growth in the region. A ₹650-crore bypass between Devchara and Bhamora is also under construction.

More Six-Lane Roads and Flyovers Planned

NHAI has also planned to make the Delapir–Airport and Pilibhit Road–Airport routes six-lane to ensure smoother traffic flow. Work on these projects is expected to begin soon.

Officials said that all ongoing projects are targeted for completion by 2028, while the Bareilly–Mathura Highway, Devchara–Bhamora bypass, and Jhumka–Rajau Parsapur Ring Road are likely to be completed by the end of 2027.

A flyover is also proposed at Maheshpura crossing, while a four-lane flyover has already been constructed at the Lal Phatak railway crossing. Another flyover is planned at the Maheshpura railway crossing.

According to NHAI officials, the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Outer Ring Road has been designed to ensure higher travel speeds and improved connectivity across Bareilly. The project includes a 29.29-kilometer bypass between Jhumka and Rajau Parsapur, allowing through traffic to bypass city roads and easing congestion within the city.DeshBharat
