Elevated Corridor Planned to Ease Traffic at Gurugram’s Rajiv Chowk

Gurugram, , January 15, 2026: In a major step to address chronic traffic congestion at Rajiv Chowk, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to construct an elevated alignment connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with National Highway-48 (NH-48).

As per the proposal, an elevated corridor will be developed from Rajiv Chowk, providing seamless connectivity between NH-48 and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The move is aimed at significantly improving traffic flow at one of Gurugram’s busiest junctions, which frequently witnesses long traffic jams and bottlenecks.

NHAI is currently preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the elevated loop. The project is being coordinated jointly by NHAI, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and the traffic police to ensure a comprehensive and effective solution.

A high-level meeting to address the traffic congestion issue was held on January 7 under the chairmanship of GMDA Chief Executive Officer P.C. Meena. The meeting focused on measures to decongest the Delhi–Gurugram stretch of NH-48 and improve its connectivity with NH-248A and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Rajiv Chowk. Several structural and traffic management solutions were discussed during the deliberations.

NHAI Project Director Yogesh Tilak informed officials about proposed improvements to traffic movement at Rajiv Chowk, including the construction of grade-separated entry and exit points through an elevated structure. He also highlighted land-related challenges, particularly for traffic moving towards Sohna.

As part of the action plan for the Delhi-to-Sohna corridor, a two-lane dedicated left-turning structure with a paved shoulder has been proposed. This structure will land on Sohna Road near the existing flyover wall and is designed to facilitate smooth entry onto the elevated corridor towards Badshahpur-Sohna, as well as provide an exit via the service road.
